A total of four Regional Extension Risk Management Education Centers and the Digital Center have been established across the United States with funding from the USDA National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA). The Extension Risk Management Education Centers operate under a set of National Guidelines approved by USDA NIFA. All of the Centers use the same on-line grant application, selection criteria and process, and on-line reporting system. Within the National Guidelines, each Center establishes regional risk management education funding priorities and selects the projects within their region to be awarded funding. All have in common the following:
- a focus on results for producers and their families and documenting these results
- partnerships to assure ongoing program successes
- a broad range of risk management tools and approaches including the inclusion of family stability issues in risk management education
